Pepperball manufactures various types of Pepperball ammunition. Red pepperballs are considered “Live” and contain PAVA powder – these will irritate on impact as intended. Purple Pepperballs contain inert powder and are generally intended for practice or training. Most recently, Pepperball has released Live-X projectiles, a much more potent round containing more than double the amount of irritant PAVA powder than regular, red “Live” pepperballs.
Finally, other companies, including Umarex, produce a similar item. Their T4E pepper balls are available in .68 caliber, .50 caliber and .43 caliber. Their “live” rounds containing irritant are half-red, and half-white. Their inert, chalk powder-filled balls are half-blue and half-white.
